Happy Dumpy
Design Entrepreneurship

I created my design brand with the name Happy Dumpy that produces creative and unique merchandises base on the colourful diversity of food and culture we have in Malaysia. The gift of Malaysian flavour that reflects our identity as Malaysians.

Malaysian food is just as diverse as the colourful mix of people of different cultures here. The distinct variety in taste, spices and origins add on to the colourful story of one's culture. However, the younger generation nowadays are unaware that there are actually lots of interesting stories, characteristic and origin behind Malaysian food.

Unveiling the unique characteristics, origin and stories of Malaysian food, Happy Dumpy puts a fun and modern twist on the colourful array of Malaysian food into handcrafted bags, purses, pouches, pillows, lip balms and soaps. As for tourists, they can’t bring back Malaysian food but they can take back these delightful Malaysian food designs as a memory of the rich multiracial food culture in Malaysia.

Kuih Kapit / Love Letters Pouches
Modernize Food Tales
The story about why these treats are called “Love Letters” seemed to harken back to days when Peranakan girls were not allowed to meet boys their own age without chaperons, but some intrepid maiden inserted little slivers of notes into the folded kuih kapek and toss them over the wall for the heart-throb next door. As stories go, apparently it was the guy’s younger kid brother who retrieved the “letters” and spilled the beans to the whole neighbourhood.

Reviving the story of kuih kapit, the modern yet authentic kuih kapit pouch is designed. You can insert messages and warm greetings into the kuih kapit pouch and send it to your loved ones or insert paper notes, coins for personal usage.
